How to address water-damaged equipment and make repairs

Leviton Manufacturing just sent me an email that is very worthy to share. Thanks Leviton!:

Hurricane Sandy has disrupted lives and caused extensive damage to homes, businesses and government structures. Now people are anxious to repair the damage and get on with their lives. Electrical professionals need to know how to address and repair water-damaged equipment.

NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturers Association) has developed a comprehensive report that details how to address water-damaged equipment and make repairs.

>>Link to NEMA Report Here

NEMA also provides a chart identifying specific types of electrical apparatus and if they can be reconditioned or simply replaced after exposure to water and wet environments.

Legislation changes for lamp replacements

Are you looking for information on lamp replacement options?

Visit www.philips.com/legislation to use an interactive lamp replacement tool and register for legislation updates.

General Service Incandescent Lamps. New efficiency standards set maximum wattages and minimum rated average lifetimes for many general service incandescent lamps. Some of the most popular include the 100W, 75W, 60W and 40W A19 shaped incandescent lamps. Depending on the lamp and state, these standards are phased in from January 1, 2012 through January 1, 2014.

Incandescent Reflector Lamps. As a result of EISA and Department of Energy (DOE) rulemaking, there are additional incandescent reflector lamp types for which the DOE can set energy conservation standards. There are also new efficiency standards for incandescent reflector lamps. Manufacturers must meet these new improved performance levels before July 2012.

General Service Fluorescent Lamps. New energy conservation standards for general service fluorescent lamps begin in July 2012 and establish minimum lumen per watt standards for a number of popular fluorescent lamps.

We've got this and other information posted on our website as well. http://www.dominionelectric.com/about-facility.htm

DC SEU Program

District of Columbia Sustainable Energy Utility
The District of Columbia Sustainable Energy Utility (DC SEU) is designed to help District households, businesses, and institutions save energy and money through energy efficiency and renewable energy programs.
Led by the Sustainable Energy Partnership, the DC SEU is committed to community engagement, economic development, job creation, and environmental preservation.
The DC Sustainable Energy Utility is a project of the Sustainable Energy Partnership under contract to the District Department of the Environment (DDOE).
For current information, please visit their website

Two quick program highlights:

Business Energy Rebates Program

The DC SEU’s Business Energy Rebates program provides DC businesses and institutions with financial rebates for installing energy-efficient equipment. The program is an easy way to reap the rewards for making energy-efficient upgrades to the equipment in your facility.

Whether you are purchasing all new equipment for a new business, making upgrades to your current facility, or replacing equipment that’s reached the end of its useful life, the DC SEU wants to help you make an energy-efficient choice to save you money on your utility bills for years to come.
Lighting
The DC SEU provides standard rebates to District businesses for installing a wide range of new, energy-efficient lighting and lighting controls, suitable for all types of business needs. Lighting choices benefit far more than your energy costs. Quality lighting can influence the way people feel and perform. It has been shown to increase sales, improve student grades, and raise employee productivity.
Click here to see the list on the DC SEU website for available rebates.

Commercial Lighting Energy Efficient Replacement (CLEER) T12 Program

For a limited time—March 12 through September 15, 2012—the DC SEU is offering $20 per fixture rebates to small and medium-sized businesses, institutions, and multifamily residential buildings in DC who work with CLEER T12 Preferred Contractors to upgrade their old, inefficient T12 fluorescent tube lighting with more efficient High-Performance T8 lighting.
Make the Switch Today
As mandated by federal regulations, the manufacture of T12 fluorescent lamps will be banned as of July 14, 2012. Businesses who upgrade to HPT8 lighting by participating in the CLEER T12 Program can avoid dwindling supplies and increased prices for T12 lighting products and are eligible to receive a rebate from the DC SEU to make the switch.

SYLVANIA lights the historic National Mall with LED lamps

I meant to write this up months ago and it has been lanquishing in my inbox since the end of January!  I was reminded to post the news since SYLVANIA LED lamps have arrived in-stock at Dominion. All the Sylvania LEDs in-stock are dimmable.

James Smith, our Sylvania sales representative, wrote:

Last night, Sylvania was part of a historic event on the National Mall. Our company installed 174 of our LED streetlight kits in the National Mall that will illuminate the Mall for years to come. You will see our LED lights lining the National Mall, from 3rd to 14th Streets and Jefferson to Madison Drive. Our goal was to save the National Mall 65% in energy savings and increase their light levels, making the Mall safer and more aesthetically pleasing.
This is a project I’ve been working on for almost 2 years, and a special “Thank You” goes to JR Jeffries and the Dominion DC team, who helped me connect with the National Park Service. Please visit the National Mall to see all the great work Sylvania has done down there. This is a showcase of Sylvania’s LED expertise, so feel free to share this information with your customers and invite them to see it firsthand.
Below is a quick snapshot of last night’s event and a list of our current media coverage, which continues to grow today. At last night’s Lighting Ceremony: President of the Trust for the National Mall Caroline Cunningham, Superintendent of the National Mall and Memorial Parks Bob Vogel, Siemens CEO Eric Spiegel, Secretary of Energy Steven Chu, OSRAM Sylvania CEO Rick Leaman, PEPCO CEO Joe Rigby, and Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar.

2012 NFMT Baltimore countdown continues!

The NFMT starts tomorrow. Be sure to stop by our booth in the "GreenTech Expo Area" - our booth #2565 - and see Lutron's Radio Powr Savr a Wireless Occupancy Sensor. Go green with Radio Powr Savr. Wasted lighting can account for a majority of a building’s total energy usage. And with many building spaces remaining unoccupied between 40% and 70% of the day, lights left on are a real energy drain. Lutron wireless occupancy/vacancy sensors automate the switching and dimming of those lights, saving energy and money. Jump to their website to learn more and see it in our booth at the show! http://www.lutron.com/Products/Sensors/Occupancy-Vacancy/WirelessRadioPowrSavr/Pages/Overview.aspx

2012 NFMT Expo

We're exhibiting at the National Facilities Management and Technology Show!
Visit us in the GreenTech Expo Area, booth #2565

In 2012, NFMT will be the biggest gathering of building owners, facility managers, maintenance engineers, sustainability directors, heads of facility operations and management, and other facilities management professionals in the country. It’s a dynamic, interactive educational and networking experience that delivers revolutionary ideas and career-boosting inspiration. You’ll rethink your approach to facilities management, connect with like-minded colleagues, hear from industry visionaries, and discover new tools to make your job more satisfying and productive than ever before. Mark March 13-15 2012 on your calendar!

To entice you to visit us, I thought I'd post some of the neat fixtures we'll have at our booth. One is the Sportlite GR52 (Sportlite is a Lightolier brand) LED Garage Fixture Series. A good looking, highly efficient and reliable LED luminaire —Keeping it simple with properly placed high quality LED’s, superior optics, low drive current, a substantial heat sink.

And a little forward thinking: The Sportlite modular LED emitter panel allows for replacement of a ¼ section in the event of a premature LED failure. Each LED section can be replaced from the low voltage side of the fixture. There is no need to access the high voltage section. As LED technology becomes more efficient the entire emitter panel can be updated.

The Sportlite thermal management system keeps LED junction temperatures well below specified maximums in all applications. And the new surface mounting system allows you to remove the fixture without disassembly.

Pretty neat! I'll put the spec sheet pdf on our website - pick it up here: http://www.dominionelectric.com/GR52.pdf

RAB WPLED20

WPLED20
RAB Lighting shoots for the heart of
the commercial outdoor lighting market
with the introduction of an affordable
LED product, the LPACK 20.
The LPACK 20 competes with the
traditional lighting alternatives in
quality of light delivered. Night time
simulations show the LPACK 20
outperforming 150W Metal Halide
wallpacks based on Lighting Facts
Compliant IES LM-79 Testing results.
Available in both warm and cool light.
Competitively priced, the total cost of
ownership of an LPACK 20 is reduced
further with a 50,000 hour LED lamp
life, eliminating the need for multiple
lamp changes.

*BGE Incentive is $125 per fixture but incentives are subject to change, check the BGE
and Pepco website for current figures.

Fluke 381 with iFlex

The new Fluke 381 does everything you would expect from a clamp meter, and then lets you remove the display for even more flexibility. Now one technician can do jobs that used to require two people. Clamp the Fluke 381 around a conductor, remove the display and walk across the room to operate controls or remove protective equipment, all while watching real-time readings.
The new iFlex flexible current probe (included) expands the measurement range to 2500 A ac while providing increased display flexibility, ability to measure awkward sized conductors and improved wire access. In stock at Dominion!
